Yo-kai Watch Wiki staff
What Yo-kai Watch Wiki is not!

This page is the official guideline of editing for Yo-kai Watch Encyclopedia. This is setted up to give the wiki an unique style of formatting articles that are both new and created. These guidelines are in demand of the staff which the contributor should follow the guideline in order to prevent themselves from getting warnings and eventually being banned from the wiki.

The quality standards can be rewritten sometimes when something new occurs in editing, but however, even if there isn't something mentioned in the guideline that was in the warning, means that there is something you did wrong that disturbed the entire style of the wiki.

Editing articles

For detailed information go here to get the latest details on how to edit articles on Yo-kai Watch Encyclopedia or any other mediawiki-based websites.

Moving articles

When moving articles, do notify a staff member and ask them for permission. Do not move an article out of your own by random, or if you moved an article already, do notify a staff member afterwards. Redirection templates are being categorized and thus is the reason why you should ask a staff member for permission or notify them when you've already done it. However, you should not move articles with a localized name not officially revealed to the public and it does not count if it comes from a third party or from a YouTuber that has the connections or figured it out through datamining. Do request the move in a polite fashion and not in a rushed manner, as the use of words will reveal what is rushed or not. If that happens, your request will be completely ignored.

Talk pages

When leaving a message on a talk page of an article of an user page, then you shoul sign off by adding the four tildes (~~~~). If you have forgotten to sign off your message, then you will be notified by a staff member or a contributor that follows the policy. The message that you also have written will be removed from the talk page.

Article headers

The headers of the articles should not be altered to your own liking. This is because Yo-kai Watch Encyclopedia follows a structure that should be respected and where much content can be added under the headers. If that happens then the article will be reverted in an insant. The contributor should not be harassing a staff member for reverting the headers. If that happens, the contributor will be directly ignored and the contributor will receive a warning.

Episode linking

Characters or Yo-kai that are appearing in the animation series or games should not receive links with only EP001. This is lazy and incomplete for editing, as you should mention the full title of the episode or the episode fragment instead of using the entire link as a title. If you use EP and not the episode title, then that means that you are meaning the entire episode including the fragments. Even if there is an episode with only one fragment, the entire title still must show up.

User talk page

A user's talk page should not be altered without their permission, neither should you response to your own talk page only when it is necessary, like when you have received a message. Do not add fan art of 18+ images on your user page. The image will be deleted and you will receive a warning if it is a fan art or a direct ban if it is a 18+ image. Regular conversations can be held, but it is best to conversate with one another through Discord.

Character articles

Character articles should not be created as a standard anime wiki from wikia, as they must be written in an original fashion. Thus, this is how their layout should look like before you create one.

  • Their respective infobox: The article must always start with their respectful infobox and not a random one. Under the section templates you will learn how to put infoboxes correctly.
  • Opening line: The article must always start with their opening line by using the translation template first. An example on how to write an opening line is: KidProdigy (キッド天才 Kiddo Tensai) is the founder of Yo-kai Watch Encyclopedia.
  • Analysis: The same way as how the Yo-kai's behavior, appearance, abilities should be included. Do not seperate the character article's header by appearance, personality, power and abilities. Put them all under analysis.
  • Story: This section contains the story of the character under different sub-headers. Game characters should have game titles as sub-header in a very organized and structured manner and anime characters should have no sub-header as their announcements goes through the episodes.
  • Befriended Yo-kai: This is only for characters who appear in the anime and not for characters who appear in the game. As that the anime follows track of which Yo-kai the protagonist or any other characters befriending with.
  • Voice actors: This section should be created with a special template created directly from the administrator. This list shows what voice actor or actress voicing the characters in animation or game series.
  • Etymology: This section is to break down the meaning of the characters name.
  • Trivia: This contains trivial information that cannot be filled in the article.
  • In other languages: Use the template language to add names of the characters in different languages.

Note:

  • Characters that appear in the anime should have (anime) next to the name when the article is created. This is to seperate game characters and anime characters because they do not follow the same story. However, if an game character has low information, and the anime character as well if they are the same character, they can be combined as one article. Any major game character should have (game) next to their name when their article is created.
  • Do not use EP as article link through the anime characters. Do place an official title in which the character appear in. If there is an usage of EP, the entire section will be removed from the article. Also, any headers and links that contains M (as in movie) will also be removed from the article. Give it their original name even if the title is long or not dubbed yet.

Yo-kai articles

Yo-kai articles should not be created as a standard anime wiki from wikia, as they must be written in an original fashion.

  • Analysis: To describe the Yo-kai's behavior, appearance, and abilities. Do not seperate the character article's header by appearance, personality, power and abilities. Put them all under analysis.
  • Profile: This part describes in chronological order what their story is in each game they made an appearance. This header is not for where the vieuwer can find them and how to get them in each game.
  • Game data: The game data describes information coming the games, such as their evolution and fusion lineage, their abilities, where the player can find them, their stats and so on. This section has multiple sub-sections which you need to be cautious how to organize it and how to name it.
  • Etymology: This section is to break down the meaning of the Yo-kai name.
  • Trivia: Trivial information that cannot be used in the article. It contains fun facts about the Yo-kai the article is about.
  • In other languages: Use the template language to add names of the characters in different languages.

Note:

  • Yo-kai that made an appearance in the anime should have a seperate article with (anime) next to their names. The Yo-kai that make an appearance in game should not have (game) next to their name.
  • Yo-kai that made an appearance in the anime should not have the following article structure as seen above. Game data must be removed and replaced with History. Profile must be removed from there as well.

Medium articles

Medium articles have a different approach than character articles and Yo-kai articles. Mediums can be broken in multiple ways, such as games, film, manga and comic.

Video games:

  • Their respective infobox: The article must always start with their respectful infobox and not a random one. Under the section templates you will learn how to put infoboxes correctly.
  • Opening line: The article must always start with their opening line by using the translation template first. An example on how to write an opening line is: KidProdigy (キッド天才 Kiddo Tensai) is the founder of Yo-kai Watch Encyclopedia.
  • Story: This section is to describe the entire story of the game.
  • Demo: This section is to describe the demo story and history of the game.
  • Gameplay: This section describes the gameplay of each game and contain valuable information of how they are executed in a summary. Complete guidance of the gameplay should be written in their own respective article.

  • Reception: It describes how well and not so well the game has been received in Japan and in the west. It also describes their sales rating and quotation by well-known revieuwers.
  • Gallery: This section is only for logo's, game art and icons. This section is not to place images from magazines and anything else.
  • Trivia: Information that could not be placed in the article. Those are small information that are still crucial for the article.
  • Other languages: This must be done in its respective template that contains the game's title in different languages it has been localized.

Film:
When creating a film article, do not create or add a template, as they do not contain valuable information that cannot be a added or created inside of the template. Full explaination will be done through their respective articles.

  • Opening line: The article must always start with their opening line by using the translation template first. An example on how to write an opening line is: KidProdigy (キッド天才 Kiddo Tensai) is the founder of Yo-kai Watch Encyclopedia.
  • Story: It describes the entire story of the film, from the beginning to the end.
  • Cast: This header will not contain any sub-headers, but it will be devided in a template alongside their respective voice actors. There will also be a description about the character and their role in the film.
  • Staff: It describes the roles of each staff member that have developed the film. If the movie is released for western theathers or for DVD and Blu-ray, the staff will have their own respective article through "pagename/staff". If you are a Japanese native, you can also add the staff in their respective sub article.
  • Music: If there is any, this section describes a small summary of which composers handeled the film's soundtrack. If there is a CD or digital release of the soundtrack, its information must be placed in their own article.
  • Events: This header describes what kind of event there is for the movie such as medal giveaways for the ones attending the film. Do not change the header to something else such as promotion.
  • Pre-release information: This section describes the information that has been released before the film, which is information that has been release in Japan until its actual debut in Japanese theaters.
  • Release information: This section describes the information that has been after the film's debut in Japanese theaters and also gives away the sales of the movie each week.
  • Trivia: Information that cannot be added in under different headers. Those are crucial information that are valuable for the vieuwer.
  • Other languages: This must be done in its respective template that contains the film's title in different languages it has been localized.

Episodes:

  • Their respective infobox: The article must always start with their respectful infobox and not a random one. Under the section templates you will learn how to put infoboxes correctly.
  • Opening line: The article must always start with their opening line by using the translation template first. An example on how to write an opening line is: KidProdigy (キッド天才 Kiddo Tensai) is the founder of Yo-kai Watch Encyclopedia.
  • Story: A full detailed synopsis of about what happens in the episode. Do note that the Yo-kai Watch animation series are split in multiple parts. Each episode title must be use as a sub header under the story header.
  • Cast: This follows the same way of film articles. This header should not contain mutliple sub headers to split Characters and Yo-kai as well as their debut. They will be put in templates.
  • Spoofs: It is the main header for the sub headers Errors and Changes.
  • Trivia: Small trivial information that caught the eye of the contributor.
  • Other languages: This must be done in its respective template that contains the episode's title in different languages it has been localized.

  • Opening line: The article must always start with their opening line by using the translation template first. An example on how to write an opening line is: KidProdigy (キッド天才 Kiddo Tensai) is the founder of Yo-kai Watch Encyclopedia.
  • Story: A full synopsis about what happens in the chapter of the manga.
  • Characters: Shows a full set of characters and Yo-kai appearing in the chapter. They should be written in lists, and their debut should be marked next to their names to prevent space.
  • Trivia: Small trivial information that cannot be written in the article.

Features articles

There are articles that represents the features of the game or mechanism that appear in the franchise. Request and Favors are two of them, as well the Yo-kai Watch, Fusion, and Evolution features. Those articles should not be written in a simplicic way and should be written in a professional manner. The articles will be altered by the founder of the wiki to its liking to make it more structured and informative. Be cautious that your work will be altered after creating one.

Summaries of articles

When writing a summary, do note that you should write the story of episodes, movies, chapters or anything else. Do not write very short summaries as the context will be removed from the wiki as it is useless for use. Do not start the summary with Natsume is one of the protagonists in Yo-kai Watch Shadowside: The Return of the Oni King. This will be removed from the wiki. Do write a summary professionally and not quickly with standard context. If you disagree on this, then it is your loss as it will not be reverted normally to how it first was after you've edited it. If you make an edit war about it, then the article will be locked and be prevented from contribution, as well you will receive a warning with the explanation why your edits has been reverted. Do start when writing a summary with Nathan, Katie, Eddie, and Bear were talking about bugs with each other at Triangle Park, not Nathan first appearaed in Yo-kai Watch were he meets Whisper. etc.

Categories

You should not create random categories or request for categories. Categories for characters that appears in each seperate Yo-kai Watch game or spin-offs should be included in their articles, but not if they are a resident in places. Yo-kai characters should not have very random categories such as what gender they are or might be, which is because it could be tricky, what color they have, what team they are in, if they are a protagonist or antagonist, or anything else. Categories should only have a single line of what the category contains. Categories are not meant to be a model of an article page. If that is created and discovered, the category will be removed from the wiki and from the articles it has been added to. The contributor will receive a warning if they have done that.

To be more specific what kind of categories are allowed for each different articles are the following:
