Hello, I am interested in adopting the wiki. I got interested in the series a while back, and I saw there was a wiki on Miraheze, but it was inactive. I only saw one bureaucrat, so if you are still interested in the wiki, please comment anything here. ZeusDeeGoose (talk) 16:56, 1 August 2022 (UTC)

still interested. but forgotten to open it. if you can help out, that'll be great! KidProdigy (talk) 22:35, 1 August 2022 (UTC)

Alright, thanks for letting me know. ZeusDeeGoose (talk) 23:19, 1 August 2022 (UTC)

However, I can give you rights if you are still interested in contributing to the wiki? KidProdigy (talk) 14:12, 2 August 2022 (UTC)

Name looks familiar[edit]

Were you from Pokemon Wiki on Fandom? I've seen it while browsing around (as I been reusing some of the older templates & whatnot for a wiki I'm doing here). I won't advertise it out of courtesy (I felt bad I did to soon on ZeusGoose's talk) but I just wanted to let know how the username came across as familiar. Bawitdaba (talk) 13:50, 2 August 2022 (UTC)

Well, yes. I was a contributor at Pokémon Wiki, but quit due to something. I didn't like wasting my time and efforts there. KidProdigy (talk) 13:58, 2 August 2022 (UTC)
Prob because Bulbapedia is extremely ahead, even to this day, I'm guessing Bawitdaba (talk) 14:02, 2 August 2022 (UTC)
Nah, not because of Bulbapedia. My efforts and all was acknowledged, but it was halted when I wanted to become an admin to help out even more. But, mostly for Pokémon info in detail, I rather go to Bulbapedia. KidProdigy (talk) 14:07, 2 August 2022 (UTC)
I'm mostly a Mario guy, although I have played earlier Pokémon titles (ty for using accent e, even in talk pages :P). I have told people I like the Fandom one more, as it appear to allow for more flexibility in style. It seems to be transforming into a Bulbapedia Lite at this point. There have been several attempts at making alt Pokemon wiki, but all of them ride off the coattails of Bulbapedia so I decided I do one that goes outside the box. It's a mountain of work for me ahead, but ultimately fun of wiki editing is what matters to me :P Bawitdaba (talk) 14:24, 2 August 2022 (UTC)
Bulbapedia is probably more used widely. Maybe they also compete with one another, which may be another thing. I liked the coding part on wiki, but i forgot about it somewhat, which is a good thing to learn some things that make a template functional and such. KidProdigy (talk) 16:49, 2 August 2022 (UTC)
Older revisions of Pokemon Wiki articles -- I've seen them use messy code from some of the Pokemon infoboxes and sprite templates -- like a toccolours. Forgot to ask, may I show you how I handle an article on a Pokemon? It's done in a unique way. I'm also very glad Miraheze maintains a Monaco skin, as I've been using that for wikis that I'm involved with, though I guess not many aside from 2008-2010 Wikia editors would have an appreciation for it, I'm guessing Bawitdaba (talk) 17:30, 2 August 2022 (UTC)
I never understood why, but you could implement that easily and you got the color. I used toccolours before, but that took a large amount of wasted time that I did something else that the entire color was there. Yeah! I remember the Monaco skin, I actually don't use it because I do like Vector too. That they changed from Monaco to Oasis was really the reason a lot of wiki's went independent if I could remember. I believed 2008-2010 was Monobook, I think. But, yeah, I am always interested in seeing other's templates. You can show me, would be happy to see it. KidProdigy (talk) 17:36, 2 August 2022 (UTC)
Okay, so here's a Pikachu article and a Zapdos article. As for game article, I did Pokemon Red and Blue and Pocket Monsters Red and Green Versions. I use Monobook as default on all wikis that I run. Here's what the Monaco skin looks like on the wiki. Also, there's a type template that I did as well as a game color. There's probably some more to note, but these are some of the key things, I'd say. Bawitdaba (talk) 18:02, 2 August 2022 (UTC)
(Darned 50x Miraheze errors) Should be able to view them now. Miraheze allows for custom domains, so do you think of like a or something for this site? Miraheze is interesting in that it doubles as both a wiki farm (I came from a wiki scene where folks don't like wiki farms, which is understandable as it could be a power grab in one swoop, like Gamepedia to Fandom) and a wiki host -- like they go beyond being seen as just a wiki host. Bawitdaba (talk) 18:22, 2 August 2022 (UTC)
All in all, it looks cool. The templates does remind a bit of another wiki, but I could be mistaken. The design too is fitting if you want to keep things informative, which is nice Miraheze is not overly ad-abusive. But the designs looks really cool. I know about the custom domains, but I actually don't understand how to make that work... :D... so, I actually didn't do it. Miraheze is indeed a wiki farm, but cool that you can use a custom design to use their servers essentially instead of paying a good chunk yourself if I understand that very well. But, I do know that there are communities out there that doesn't like wiki farms such as NIWA, which is one that I know. Unfortunately Zelda Wiki is a victim of it as well: KidProdigy (talk) 20:23, 2 August 2022 (UTC)
Yeah honestly I do not trust NIWA -- they have never owed up to having a Fandom-owned wiki (being the founding member) in their alliance, contradicting their core philosophies, so I broke away and decided to create and develop wikis here. When I do wikis here, I embrace the Miraheze identity, so at face value people can see "these are wikis on Miraheze." Also, I could possibly buy a custom domain for this wiki if you'd like that (and possibly file a phabricator task on your behalf). Bawitdaba (talk) 20:44, 2 August 2022 (UTC)
Which communities do you know that do not like NIWA? I know Zelda Dungeon is one of them (or at least one of the admins there). Bawitdaba (talk) 20:45, 2 August 2022 (UTC)
Well, if it is not too much too ask and not too expensive or whatever, you can create a custom domain for this wiki, thank you very much for that. But about that of NIWA, that was something I think was strange too as well that they didn't do anything about it. I believed that the Mario Wiki, Bulbapedia and Zelda Wiki were the ones that founded NIWA, with the idea about it coming from Zelda Wiki. I do agree with you about it that they are contradicting their philosophies because that was really strange. But I understand as well that you broke away from it. Miraheze is the same for me too, at some point actually at Wikia/Fandom, the ads were so too much all over the place that it became bothersome. KidProdigy (talk) 21:18, 2 August 2022 (UTC)
Okay I bought and filed a Phabricator request for it, if that's ok with you. Bawitdaba (talk) 22:02, 2 August 2022 (UTC)
It's been done, although still functions as its own standalone domain Bawitdaba (talk) 13:18, 3 August 2022 (UTC)
For some weird reasons, I cannot log into my own account. I'll send a message about it. This is an second account and strange enough this works. But thanks for adding the domain of it, really much appreciated! MiraMira (talk) 13:52, 3 August 2022 (UTC)
You're welcome -- I could send a request to have autoredirect to, if you'd like (as it does not automatically do that & is therefore possibly why you're having account issues -- I had that at first as well, although making an edit on the automatically fixed it Bawitdaba (talk) 17:08, 3 August 2022 (UTC)
Ah, you can try and do that, maybe it may be that. KidProdigy (talk) 17:21, 3 August 2022 (UTC)
Because now I am able to log in, but it will act difficult again when I log out eventually and try to log in. KidProdigy (talk) 17:23, 3 August 2022 (UTC)

MediaWiki pages[edit]

I love how you customized some of the MediaWiki messages, like MediaWiki:Protectedpagetext and MediaWiki:Uploadtext reminds me of SmashWiki's. Also (just in case message doesn't get buried) are you good with the Phabricator task (i.e. request to Miraheze) to change the url (you said you'd like the url change)? Bawitdaba (talk) 03:43, 3 August 2022 (UTC)

Editing more[edit]

Do you plan on editing more on this wiki? I haven't seen much edits from you here lately. :P I could possibly just do the basics, like I mentioned how I recall Play Nintendo activities for Yo-Kai Watch Bawitdaba (talk) 23:28, 3 August 2022 (UTC)

help is always appreciated friend! yeah, i'll edit more on this wiki. I am playing through the first game to see what I can add on here. KidProdigy (talk) 10:36, 4 August 2022 (UTC)
Did low activity and working from ground-up (it says in sitenotice to not share info with Yokai Watch Wikia) make things feel uninspiring to continue (at least from what I'm guessing)? Bawitdaba (talk) 11:54, 4 August 2022 (UTC)
The intention was to make it different instead of being a copy-paste of the wikia. It is a lot of work, but my intentions were that I would work from one game to another with information. The wikia itself was somewhat disasterous with large amount of stub pages just than actual pages just to have their editcount up. KidProdigy (talk) 12:24, 4 August 2022 (UTC)
I tend to want to play through games before creating articles on them on a wiki, even if I reuse content from Wikipedia, just so that I have an idea of what to rewrite & format appropriately (things could come to mind as I rewrite) and so to possibly avoid spoilers, stuff like that. Bawitdaba (talk) 12:58, 4 August 2022 (UTC)

ah, everyone has a different way of editing. I usually forget a lot of them that is why too. KidProdigy (talk) 13:04, 4 August 2022 (UTC)

I sort of wondered if the fewer edits are also as a result of being busy, which would be understandable, as tends to happen when one gets older. One other thing I was goin to note is that with the Pokemon wiki I run, there's some unique info, I believe, like it took me a good while to write the Event Pokémon article ground-up. Similar to some earlier revisions of Pokemon Wikia, there's articles that are designed after their older Wikipedia articles, and are presented uniquely (see here for a complete list of articles). What makes this wiki different is that it's actually more based on the Super Mario Wiki (in style and design), if anything. Sorry, not trying to promote or seek affiliation -- I just like how many ideas go on in my mind :P Bawitdaba (talk) 16:40, 4 August 2022 (UTC)
Yeah, that also the reason. I have been busy a lot of times than before, so that's the reason for the slow editing. As said, everyone has a different style of editing. I didn't know that of the Pokémon Wikia, but I like writing information that I encounter that aren't easy to find elsewhere. I see how you are editing your articles and the way you present them. I had literally no idea that it was based on the Super Mario Wiki, I just did things without influence actually. KidProdigy (talk) 16:52, 4 August 2022 (UTC)
Same here -- adding unique information is what may attract others over, so then it's like a different experience or something. Or some may just prefer how one place presents its information over the other. Bawitdaba (talk) 17:41, 4 August 2022 (UTC)
That's the idea what I had about it. At some point I thought that Fandom/Wikia wasn't worth the information. KidProdigy (talk) 16:00, 5 August 2022 (UTC)
