Gameplay

Gameplay of Yo-kai Watch World which the player finds the Yo-kai through the lens.

Yo-kai Watch World heavily borrows the concept of Nintendo, The Pokémon Company, Game Freak and Niantic's popular application Pokémon GO. The real-life player plays the role as the protagonist as they search for many unique Yo-kai that appear in the real world. The player can battle against the Yo-kai that are making an appearance in Japan and the goal of the game is to complete the Yo-kai Encyclopedia by moving in Japan or passing other players in Japan. The player searches for nearby Yo-kai on the location that they are on the map, as there are various Yo-kai to discover depending on the player's location as they should not forget to search for nearby Yo-kai if they are visiting a new place. The player should tap the iconof the Yo-kai they have found through "search" and by doing so, the player will be able to see Yo-kai through their smartphone screen. The player has to find the Yo-kai and pursue them so that they do not escape. The game takes elements from the mainline Yo-kai Watch series, as the search system represents on how the player finds the Yo-kai through the lens of the player's Yo-kai Watch and have to pursue them without letting them escape.

The gameplay of Yo-kai Watch World can be compared to Nintendo, The Pokémon Company, Game Freak and Niantic's popular application Pokémon GO. The player goes through various of placed in Japan to find Yo-kai. The gameplay of the game take elements from the mainline Yo-kai Watch series, were the player has to find the Yo-kai and once seeing them on their smartphone, they should tap the Yo-kai. The Yo-kai lens feature occurs where the player has to aim on the Yo-kai without losing sight. One the player captured the Yo-kai through their phone, the Yo-kai attacks the player and a battle occurs. However, the battle system is not the same as that of the mainline Yo-kai Watch series. The battle contains three Yo-kai against three other Yo-kai. The Yo-kai of the player fights automatically as the game, however, they can help them with switching places of the Yo-kai from left to right, or from the mid to left or right or from left to mid and right to mid. When the Yo-kai has defeated by their opponent Yo-kai, the player switches one of the other three Yo-kai out of play replacing the rotation system and the strategic gameplay system from the original games. If all six of the player's Yo-kai has been defeated, the player loses the Yo-kai they've found, but if the player manages to win the battle against the Yo-kai they've found, there is a possibility that they will join the player's party.

Further, the player also has the possibility to stick Yo-kai onto other players, and by doing so, the Yo-kai will tag along to new places and might bring back other Yo-kai that the player cannot get on their own without being on that location. There is also a possibility that the Yo-kai will bring back special presents were the player's exact location will not be shown to other players. The player can plant a Yo-kai Tree in places were they do not have the chance to visit often, or by having a Yo-kai that tags onto another player to plant it. The tree will create an area for Yo-kai to gather, giving the player the chance to meet new Yo-kai.
