Yo-kai Watch movie

A Yo-kai Watch movie ( Japanese : 映画 妖怪ウォッチ, Eiga Yōkai Wotchi) is a theatrical film released in Japan in December that focuses on Yo-kai and as well the cast from the animation series. Each movie's length contains about an hour and is distributed by the Japanese film, theater production, and distribution company Toho.

The story of the movie mostly follows the protagonist Nathan Adams and his Yo-kai friends facing a bigger thread to save both human and Yo-kai World. In the first movie, he encounters the Yo-kai Hovernyan and with a stone, Nathan, Jibanyan and Whisper were sent back 60 years in the past. The second movie contains five different stories with the final story being the overall plot of the movie. The third movie contains a mixture between actors and animation characters and the fourth movie contains a tonal shift in the series, being more darker than it first was.

The movies are all written by Level-5 founder and Yo-kai Watch creator Akihiro Hino. When the movies open in Japan, they usually gross a large amount of money, mostly ranking first or second for their premiere weekend. Always at each movie, attendents receive gifts such as medals, download codes for games, posters or anything else in that way.

Trivia

• The fourth movie is the only movie which sales are not comparable with its previous three movies. This marked Yo-kai Watch declining popularity.
• The fifth movie is not part of the Shadowside series, but the movie will be released during the Shadowside series span of anime and video games.
